Shining a Light On Child Abuse Prevention

Shining a Light On: Child Abuse Prevention
Since April is Child Abuse Awareness Month, Necco encourages both individuals and organizations to play an active role in making the world a safer and better place for children and families. By ensuring that parents have the knowledge, skills and resources they need to care for their children, we can help promote children’s social and emotional well-being while working to prevent child maltreatment within families and communities.

Throughout the month of April, Necco continues its community outreach efforts with a heightened awareness of child abuse prevention and an emphasis on advocacy for those who are victimized. This includes several events and activities that recognize caregivers who have dedicated themselves to becoming part of the solution to stamping out child abuse and neglect, and encourage others to join the cause. These events include the installation of pinwheel gardens to recognize child abuse victims, awards for foster parenting, and general community education efforts.

• Necco of Logan arranged a pinwheel garden in Chief Logan State Park as part of the Pinwheels for Prevention Program and Child Abuse Prevention Month.

“April is a time to celebrate the important role that communities play in protecting children,” said Dee Necco, marketing director. “Many of the kids we see each day in our programs have themselves been the victims of abuse. Child abuse is completely preventable. We need the community’s participation to ensure that the cycle of abuse comes to an end.”
