"A lot of people call us like the major leaguers," Devin laughs, reflecting on their decision to foster and adopt. When they began their journey, they never imagined their family would grow to include ten children—four biological, two adopted, and three current fosters. The Crumbliss family embodies the spirit of embracing the unexpected and finding joy in every moment.
The First Placement: A Surreal Experience
Devin recalls the surreal experience of their first placement: "We got a newborn girl. I went to the hospital to pick her up. It’s so heartbreaking and surreal to pick up someone else’s child from the hospital." "You don't realize how much you're going to have an impact on their biological family," Devin explains. "We’ve got grandmas, grandpas, aunts, and uncles—our kids have no idea they were only in our lives because we fostered to adopt," Devin marvels. Talk to them, because you don’t really know what it’s like until you talk to someone who’s been there."
