“We chose Necco because of the people,” says LaSara. “I’ll never forget calling and speaking with Miss Jackie—she was so warm and inviting. She understood why we wanted to do this.” For LaSara and Stanley, fostering started as a dream to adopt. Over time, it evolved into something even bigger: providing therapeutic care and advocating for children in crisis. “Our intention was fostering to adopt,” LaSara explains. “But along the way, we realized reunification is just as important. We wanted to give kids love and stability, even if it was temporary.” Their journey began years ago when LaSara was just 23: “I took in a teenage girl while I was in college. She literally ran into my life—jumped in my back seat while running from someone. Even though we were close in age, I became her mom. Today, I’m raising her children.” The couple credits Necco for unwavering support: “They’ve been there every step—from training to crisis calls. I’ll never forget the day I had to deliver my dissertation. We had a crisis, and Miss Jackie drove to my house to help so I could make it. That’s family.” Fostering has strengthened their marriage and expanded their parenting “toolbox”: “We know each other’s strengths and weaknesses. We pray for these kids, advocate for them spiritually, mentally, physically, and financially. Everything we’ve learned over the years helps us give them the therapeutic care they need.” Their advice for new foster parents? “Know your why. Make sure it’s rooted in love and the desire to provide care for children in tough situations. That’s what will keep you consistent.” For LaSara and Stanley, home is more than a place: “Home is where kids can be themselves—quirky, silly, vulnerable—and still feel loved and supported. We meet them where they are, without false expectations, and help build them up.” And while their journey has focused on reunification, they’re now preparing for adoption: “We want to give a child a forever home.
