“We always loved the idea of adoption,” says Sierra. “We knew we wanted to be parents, but we didn’t expect it to happen so smoothly with Necco.” Since 2017, LaKeisha and Sierra have been fostering children in Charleston, WV. Today, their home is full of laughter—and six kids under the age of six. “What surprises us most is that we can thrive in chaos,” Sierra laughs. “There are days we’re exhausted, and then days where everyone’s laughing and running through the house. I couldn’t imagine life any other way.” Their partnership with Necco has been essential: “One time, we had a child in the hospital and couldn’t be there because of work. Necco sent someone to sit with him so we could keep our appointments. That meant so much to us.” Necco also provides therapy, family activities, and community events like trunk-or-treat and picnics: “Our kids know everyone in the office. It feels like family.” For LaKeisha, fostering is deeply personal: “I grew up in a situation where I could have been in foster care. Now, I want these kids to know they don’t have to worry about not having a mom or dad. As long as someone loves you, that’s what matters.” Their advice for new foster parents? “Utilize Necco. They’ll give you all the resources you need, and if they can’t provide something in-house, they’ll make sure your kids get what they need.” For LaKeisha and Sierra, fostering isn’t about perfection—it’s about love, structure, and moving forward: “You can have two kids, three kids, or six. With routine and support, it works.” Ready to make a difference? Visit https://www.necco.org to learn how you can start your foster care journey.
