There are six (6) requirements for young adults enrolled in our program:

  2. You must obtain and maintain employment.

  3. You must learn and demonstrate progress in life skills and established goals.

  4. You must learn financial literacy.

  5. You must maintain program compliance and a clean apartment.

  6. You must visit with your life coach/case manager weekly.

Yes, but youth from county and DJJ custody are eligible for this program.

Just a few days. We will do our absolute best to have your apartment furnished and ready for you within 72 hours, or potentially less if needed. Everything will be there for you when you arrive.

Beautiful! We offer single occupancy or roommate style units, and you have an opportunity to make your apartment reflect your individual tastes and interests. We will furnish your apartment with a new bed, TV, small kitchen appliances, dishes, silverware, and all other household needs. From there you can decorate however you like and make your apartment a home.

Of course! You may have guests, subject to staff approval.

Roommates are not required during Necco Independent Living, but if you would like one, and live in Georgia or Kentucky, we are happy to accommodate. In Ohio, roommates are not allowed.

All you need to bring is yourself and a willingness to succeed!

Your Life Coach/Case Manager will see you weekly to check-in and make sure your needs are more than met, but they will balance these visits with your emerging need for independence and adulthood.

You are not required to have a high school diploma or G.E.D. to be admitted into our program. If you haven’t yet attained either of those yet, we will help you achieve one or the other while you’re enrolled.

Not necessarily. You can either have the lease of your current apartment transferred to your name, or Necco will help you find different affordable housing prior to your 21st birthday.

Independent Living Worker Questions

We have locations throughout Ohio, Georgia, and Kentucky.

We use LYFT Learning in our program.

Submit an up to date referral to Necco. Provide Necco with the young adult’s contact information in order to set up an interview/informational session with the client.

Clients must seek/maintain gainful employment and/or enrollment in school. Client must have a reliable funding source contracted with Necco.

Clients can enter our program at the age of 16 in Ohio, 17 ½ (with a waiver) in Georgia, and 18 in Kentucky.

Turnaround time from referral to placement typically takes less than 72 hours. However, Necco is equipped to handle emergency placements if vacancies are immediately available.

Clients may remain in our program until they emancipate from the county system. In most cases, emancipation occurs on the client’s 21st birthday. Our program is voluntary, and young adults have the right to exit at any time they wish.

Per PCC regulations Case Managers must see clients weekly. However, in situations where there are concerns or more supervision/assistance needed, we will see the youth as often as needed. Case supervision is conducted monthly with Program Director/State Director for each client in the program to examine areas of concerns/achievements/needs/etc.

Upon exiting the program, we expect our young adults to have:

  • Sustainable long-term housing (evidenced by their name being on a lease).

  • Dependable banking resources (evidenced by a checking and savings account in good standing).

  • Access to health professionals (evidenced by an identified PCP).

  • Connected citizenship (evidenced by voter registration, community service, and mentorship).

Here are just some of the ways!

  • Assisting with scheduling of and transportation to and from appointments.

  • Visiting clients weekly (more if necessary) to assure that they are on track with all goals/objectives on state plan as well as treatment plan from Necco.

  • Monthly inspections to assist with risk management and to make sure there are no maintenance issues/concerns in the apartment.

  • Life skills building to give youth the tools that are needed to be successful and productive citizens.

  • Frequent contact with state workers to disclose any and all achievements, progress, or lack of/concerns.

  • Offering 24-hour crisis support.
