Originally from Metro Detroit, the couple has called Savannah home for over a decade. Fostering wasn’t always part of their plan, but Kaitlynn felt called to it: “It had always been on my heart. I didn’t know any foster parents growing up, but I just felt like it was something I was meant to do.” Dave admits he wasn’t immediately on board: “I felt like our lives were already busy. Adding younger kids again seemed overwhelming. But Kaitlynn won me over—and now, I’m glad she did.” Their partnership with Necco made the transition easier: “They were welcoming, explained everything thoroughly, and never pressured us. Our caseworker has been pivotal—always answering the phone, listening, and helping us through the emotional parts.” Fostering has changed their family in profound ways: “It’s made our kids realize not everyone has a mom and dad or a stable home. They’ve become more empathetic and appreciative of what they have.” Kaitlynn and Dave stress that fostering isn’t a shortcut to adoption: “Kids are meant to reunify with their families. Be open to that. Do your research, talk to other foster parents, and understand what fostering really means.” They’ve seen incredible progress with their placements: “Our current foster child came to us terrified to be alone. Now, he plays independently and feels safe. Those moments remind us why we do this.” Their advice? “Give it a try—even if it’s respite care or short-term fostering. You’ll make an impact, even if it’s just for a year or two.” For Kaitlynn and Dave, home isn’t just a place—it’s the people: “A safe space where you can be yourself, love each other, and work through challenges together.” Ready to open your heart and home?
