Balancing a full-time college schedule, a part-time job, and a social life isn’t easy—especially when you’re transitioning out of foster care. For Aaron, an 18-year-old from Lexington, Kentucky, having a safe and comfortable place to call home made all the difference. “With having a job, going to school, having a social life… it’s just a lot. So, some place to lay my head that I like was always something that helped ease the stress off my shoulders.” Aaron is a full-time student at the University of Kentucky, pursuing two degrees—Criminal Justice and Political Science—with a minor in Law and Justice. His goals? Law school, becoming a prosecutor, and maybe even stepping into politics one day. When Aaron entered Necco’s Independent Living program, he first chose to stay on campus to be close to classes and university activities. Later, he moved into his own apartment through Necco for better accommodations. Click here to watch Aaron’s full story. Click here to take a tour of Aaron’s apartment. Necco made the transition smooth and stress-free. “They were very quick with it,” Aaron says. “They tried to get me out as soon as possible before winter break so I’d have a place to stay.” From furniture and cleaning supplies to groceries and kitchen essentials, Necco ensures every apartment is livable and welcoming. “They are very generous when it comes to stuff like that,” Aaron adds. His advice for teens aging out of foster care? “I know life’s scary, and just because you’re turning 18 doesn’t mean you have to take on all the adult life decisions people expect you to. Necco’s here to ease that and make some life choices for you.” Start your journey today. Click here to learn more about our Independent Living program.
